Manufactured in America to the highest quality standards, Gradall metal mill maintenance machines are built for hard work and a long machine life, backed by a name respected worldwide in construction equipment. Bulk Lift Products supports every machine with parts, service, and rental options.
Gradall metal mill maintenance machines are built for hot, rugged work.
Bulk Lift Products is the authorized Gradall distributor for steel and aluminum mill maintenance machines. Gradall XL Series V machines run on crawler or rough terrain rubber tire undercarriages and carry a low-profile telescoping boom that reaches deep into furnaces and ladles for tear-out, debricking, tap hole work, and dross skimming. They are built in America to handle the pounding, vibration, and heat of daily mill maintenance, and Bulk backs them with parts, service, and rental options. Steel mill machines are covered first. Steel Mill Maintenance Machines
XL 3210 V through XL 7310 V, eight models on crawler or rough terrain wheeled undercarriages. Boom range, swing, and 360 degree tilt rotation give precise control for ladle and BOF maintenance, tap hole cleanout and replacement, and work in confined or crowded areas.

One Volvo Stage 5 engine on a crawler or rough terrain rubber tire undercarriage. Crawlers run dual range high torque piston motors with three-stage planetary drives and wet disc parking brakes, tracks counter-rotate to pivot on the swing centerline, and travel reaches 3.4 mph. Hoses are stainless braided with fire sleeves, tracks and foam filled or solid tires are fire resistant, and heat shields protect the rubber. Wheeled models use oscillation lock cylinders and box plate construction to work in any direction without outriggers.
Heavy-duty boom rollers, a rugged boom, and a tilt motor at the rear end give 360 degree continuous rotation for prying at any angle with no loss of tilting power. The low-profile boom telescopes out to 52 feet with consistent force, reaching deep into furnaces while the operator sees the full boom length through the entire dig cycle.
Quiet, roomy cab with a comfortable seating module and joysticks built into the armrests. An in-cab switch selects the Gradall, Deere, or SAE control pattern. Two electronic foot pedals reposition the carrier across two crawler speed ranges. Air conditioning, high temperature glass, and window guards are standard, with optional rollover protection.
Bosch Rexroth high-pressure hydraulics, electronically controlled with pressure-compensated, load-sensing valves. A combined electrical system runs chassis and excavator functions, and an internal tooth swing bearing keeps movement smooth and stable.
Short tail swing to maneuver in tight quarters, a heavy frame for lateral support, and a heavy boom cradle. Crawlers carry thicker grouser pads for work at the side of the carrier. The triangular telescoping boom holds full power and speed through the working range, with electronic joysticks for precise boom and attachment positioning.
Steel Mill Use Cases
Ladle maintenance: clean bottoms and side walls, debrick wear lining without damaging the permanent lining, rake and remove slag with minimum metal loss, and push out the plug at the base of the ladle. BOF maintenance: descull the converter lip, clean and replace tap holes, and debrick, repair, and drill tap holes with the hydraulic tap hole drill attachment and tap hole insert tool. Torpedo ladles: remove hard slag from hot metal troughs, clean out refractory brick, and handle torpedo car cleanup. Electric furnaces: clean and replace tap holes, debrick refractory lining, and rake hot slag from the pit below the furnace.

Aluminum Mill Maintenance Machines
XL 4240 V crawler and XL 4340 V wheeled. Articulating booms reach through the furnace mouth to skim dross and maintain furnace walls and bottoms. The boom raises 29 inches horizontally and tilts 8.1 degrees above grade and 19 degrees below grade.

A three-section, cable-actuated, non-tilting boom with adjustable level working height telescopes out to 48 feet. Roller assemblies remove for easy maintenance, and the low profile keeps the boom clear of the furnace mouth with full-length visibility through the working cycle.
One Volvo Stage 5 engine on a crawler or rough terrain rubber tire undercarriage, with the same fire resistant tracks and tires, heat shields, stainless braided hoses, and counter-rotating tracks as the steel models. A single-point lifting yoke is available. Wheeled models work in any direction without outriggers.
Heavy-duty boom rollers on an exceptionally rugged three-section boom. The boom is cable actuated and non-tilting, level working height is adjustable, and the roller assembly can be removed for maintenance. Internal metal hose and tube clamps keep lines protected, and reach is up to 48 feet with consistent boom force.
